Description
Museo de Artes y Costumbres Juan Eslava Galán is located in the old Hospital de San Miguel (also called Casa del Rey because Ibn Alhamar is believed to have been born here) and shares a building with Museo Arqueológico de Arjona. This heritage milestone is not linked to the work La Lápida Templaria itself, but to Juan Eslava Galán, who, in addition to giving its name to the Museum, donated most of the collection on display. Among the most representative elements exhibited in the museum, the original throne used in the recording of the film Lawrence of Arabia stands out. Inaugurated in November 2012, it has an important collection of ethnographic and traditional objects used by the residents of Arjona throughout its most recent history: olive culture, typical slaughtering objects, typical rooms of houses, etc. Between both museums, a chronological route with a marked didactic nature is forged, from Prehistory to the current era, learning about some attractions such as the burial of El Algar, the Iberian culture, the Roman culture or illustrious figures of the town, such as the founder of the Nasrid dynasty of Granada, Ibn Alhamar, or Helvia, mother of the philosopher Seneca.
