Festival of Flowers
Description
In the month of May, the "Fiesta de las Flores" (Festival of Flowers) is celebrated in honour of Villargordo's patron saint, the Virgen del Amor Hermoso, with a lively Cultural Week and night-time open-air dances centred mainly around the promenade. In July, the descent and ascent from his hermitage to the parish church of the patron saint, the Cristo de la Salud, draws large numbers of Villargordo residents around his devotional image, with the traditional "pesos" (weighings) repeated every evening from 28 July in front of the throne, where children and adults are weighed on a Roman scale before donating an amount equivalent to that year's price of wheat.
