La Loma and Las Villas
The region is located in the central area of the province of Jaén, in a strip of soft and wavy landscape dominated by the impressive olive sea, located between the high course of the Guadalquivir River and the Guadalimar River, until its confluence, with a SW-NE orientation. It is bordered to the north by Sierra Morena, to the south by Sierra Mágina and to the east by the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, it opens to the west by the vast valley of Guadalquivir.
Its privileged location has made the region the protagonist of important historical events since ancient times, which have left precious traces, and of a magnificent architectural production, especially of the Renaissance, which is spread throughout the Loma, finding its maximum splendor in the sets of Ubeda, Baeza or Sabiote.
The monumental heritage is as abundant as the crafts and gastronomy, where the offer is impressive: pottery and ceramics, forging, masonry, tapestries, esparto, glass and tapestries. To taste the typical delicacies of the gastronomy, there can be no lack of dishes such as the potage of chickpeas with acelgas, the potage of beans with eggplant, the tides of chickpeas, the pears of the vigil, the andrajos and the products of the slaughter such as the loin, the Morcilla or chorizo, the cod to the Baeza, the pipirrana, the rice in caldo or the meat in tomato sauce and the sweets such as pears, the biscuits or the homemade pastas and the occhios in the almites that will make the most delicious of the pallets. All these foods can be enjoyed with their splendid Torreperogil wines, brandies and anisated drinks such as risol and pigeon.
It also has natural spaces protected by its exceptional values, such as the reservoirs of Puente de La Cerrada, Doña Aldonza and Pedro Marín, in the Guadalquivir, and La Laguna Grande, wetlands of unique importance that house numerous waterbirds.
