Why Hotel Rey Sancho IV?
Our name is due to Sancho IV "El Bravo" (1,258-1,295), son of Alfonso X "El Sabio" and king of Castilla during the period between 1,284 and 1,295.
The beginning of the Muslim presence on these lands is in the eighth century, representing a point of particular importance in those times given their situation, as it was a border between the Moro and Christian kingdoms enjoying fame thanks to the inexpugnable character of their castle, which was the scene of struggles and rebellious.
During the reign of Fernando III, in the year 1,226, there is the reconquest of Santisteban del Puerto, later being his son, Alfonso X, who will annex it to Ubeda as a village.
Finally, Sancho IV, a decisive monarch in the historical event of this municipality, granted him and recognized through the Foral Charter the privilege of Villa Real on March 15, 1,285, a concession that his son, Fernando IV, revalidated, before giving it to the Order of Calatrava ten years later.
