Traditional bull runs are held, following mountain custom, in honour of the Virgen del Campo. This festival stems from the tradition known as “el ocho de Torres”, whereby every 8 May the Virgen del Campo was brought from her hermitage to the parish church, where she remained until 8 September, when she returned once again to her hermitage.

Held on the last Sunday of May. During the festivities, the Virgin is taken up to her hermitage to spend the summer there. Then, at the end of summer, she must be brought back to the town in another pilgrimage held on the last Sunday of August, so that the Virgin can remain in her church during the festival held in early September.

• These are the festivities in honour of the patron saint. They begin the night before in the church square, where the so-called “Castillos del Santo”, built from pine wood, are set alight. Around the bonfires, people sing, dance, and some even dare to jump over the flames and embers. 

The age-old tradition of “serving the saint” survives, either in fulfilment of a promise or a penitential vow.

A draw assigns the so-called “positions” of Captain, Flag-bearer and Guinche, whose holders are then obliged to organise a celebration at their respective homes, and to wear the distinctive costumes associated with the role, inspired by 18th-century military dress uniforms. Dressed in this way, they accompany the Saint in the procession to the beat of a drum. Once the religious ceremony is over, the Flag-bearer shows off his skill juggling the flag and invites others to do the same.

It is also traditional to offer San Silvestre enormous “roscos de baño blanco”, a sweet with Moorish echoes, given as gifts by the "cargo" holders and by residents who have made a vow to do so. The following day, they are auctioned off, and the proceeds go towards the parish's needs.

At night, bonfires are lit in the church square, and “cuerva” (a drink made from wine, sugar, water and fruit) is served, offered by the Town Hall to those attending.

The main events are the Mass, followed by the handing out to those attending of the so-called “tortas del santo”, which by tradition are made by those who married the previous year. The festival ends with the procession of the saint's image up to “El Cerro”, from where the fields are blessed.

Festivities in honour of the Patron Saint, with a pilgrimage to the Virgin's hermitage, where religious events are held. Pilgrims have lunch in the surrounding countryside.

This is a curious carnival tradition in which young men use “Bordos”, the fruit of the bulrush plant, once woven to make chair seats, rubbing their long strands until they release a white, sticky fluff that sticks to the hair or clothing of the girl they wish to show their love for — a source of pride for the mothers of these young women, who saw their daughters return covered in many “bordos”, an unmistakable sign that she had many suitors.

Where, at the sound of the evening bell, the bonfires are once again lit, with the purifying symbolism of commemorating the Purification of Mary and the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple.

Every 25 April, Hinojares celebrates its patron saint festival in honour of San Marcos. To mark the occasion, the saint is carried in procession and the traditional blessed "tortas de San Marcos" are handed out — round sweets with ribbed edges.

The Evangelist saint is carried in procession holding one such cake in his left arm, representing the many that, once the religious ceremony ends, are distributed among locals and visitors alike, as an old, time-honoured act of communal charity, paid for from municipal funds. Until about half a century ago, it was customary for the Patron Saint not to process alone through the streets of Hinojares, but to be accompanied by the image of San Blas.

On this day, the people of Génave head out into the countryside following the old rite of “tying up the devil”, which consists of tying knots using stalks of grain or sprigs of broom. In this way, they symbolically leave the evil one bound, freeing the people and fields of Génave from his wrongdoing.

The night before, at dusk, “las luminarias” (bonfires) are lit, around which residents eat, drink, dance and enjoy themselves. A festival deeply rooted in the agricultural-festive culture of the mountain people.
