The Patron Saint Festivities of Baños de la Encina are held on the second weekend of May. Without doubt, the main event is the Pilgrimage of the Virgen de la Encina, in which, on the second Sunday of May, the image is moved to the Sanctuary, accompanied by all the people of Baños on floats, on horseback, or even on foot. On the Saturday, the Floral Offering to the Virgin is also held, along with various street parades, fireworks and the release of young bulls. On Fair Monday, the procession of the Patron Saint, Jesús del Llano, takes place. All of this is enlivened by the Fairground, with its stalls, tombolas and good wine, over five days. 

The medieval days have been held in Baños for a few years now, in the town's Plaza and Castle. Stalls of craftspeople and tavern-keepers based on the medieval period are set up, along with re-enactments of the capture of the Castle and battles between Moors and Christians, as well as storytelling from the period, theatre, dance and much more, with all the people of Baños taking part dressed as Moors or Christians.

As civic-religious festivities, the Fiestas del Emigrante are held around 15 August in honour of the people of Baños living away from the town, featuring cultural and sporting events and popular open-air dances, as well as the Procession of the Virgen de la Encina, carried by emigrants unable to attend the pilgrimage. Without doubt, the most special event is the Migas Gathering, where local clubs of friends, both from the town and from further afield, come together to compete for the best migas. More than 100 such clubs gather around the Santo Cristo esplanade. 

A festival that today is purely religious in character. This festival came about following the merger of the two Brotherhoods of the Patron Saints, that of the Virgen de la Encina and that of Jesús del Llano, when the festival dates were reorganised: 8 September, the Nativity of Our Lady; the 12th, the Sweet Name of Mary; and the 14th, the feast of the Holy Cross. It was established that the novena to the Virgen de la Encina be held from the 9th to the 17th (the Virgin arrived from the Sanctuary on the 8th), the Salve on the 18th, the Feast and Procession of the Virgin on the 19th, the Feast and Procession of Jesús del Llano on the 20th, and the 21st as the feast of San Mateo, patron of the Parish of Baños.

This is without doubt one of the most deeply rooted festivals in Baños, held on All Saints' Day, in early November, when men, and also women, form groups or “partías” and leave the village for small farmhouses or huts in the mountains, where they spend several days and nights hunting birds with birdlime (“liria”), sharing bread, wine and jokes.

The origin of this custom is thought to lie in the fact that, on All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, the church bells would ring constantly, day and night, causing considerable distress — which the village men would escape by heading somewhere the bells could not be heard, turning the occasion into more of a “wake”, with plentiful food and drink for the living who were present, than a remembrance of those who had already departed this world, whose souls, and the prayers said for them, were left in the hands of the women who had stayed behind in the village.

A popular race running through some of the most iconic spots in Baños de la Encina. The town, part of the network of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, is notable for the beauty of its rich artistic heritage.

The entire old town of the village transforms to bring its medieval past back to life, hosting numerous activities: street parades, a medieval market, ballads, music, theatre, the offering of the rose on horseback, and more. Its old town has been a Historic-Artistic Site since 1962.

On this date, one of the fairs held in Bailén takes place in the Barrio de San José Obrero. Built in the 1960s, its residents eagerly await the start of this month to decorate their streets with garlands and flowers, setting up stalls to enjoy the event both by day and by night.

This date coincides with Spain's National Day, but it also holds special significance for our town as it marks other important festivities for Bailén: those of the Barrio del Pilar. On the weekend closest to this date, Bailén hosts the Re-enactment of the Battle of Bailén, in which local re-enactment groups (“Voluntarios de la Batalla de Bailén”, “Histórico Cultural General Reding” and “Bailén por la Independencia”), together with others from across Spain and even Europe, faithfully recreate the 1808 Battle of Bailén, closely following the historical events.

Alongside this, the event is accompanied by various activities such as parades, skirmishes, a craft market and food tastings.

Once the olive harvest is finished, coinciding with the Feast of the Virgen de la Candelaria, the town makes use of the olive branches commonly known as “ramón” to build bonfires in the different neighbourhoods, where residents gather that night to enjoy local produce.
