Hugely popular. Since 1989, a competition for comic and carnival troupes has been held, along with dances. The festivities close with the “Rellená del Carnaval”.
On the first Sunday of May, the Virgen de la Fuensanta and Santa Lucía are moved from the sanctuary to the parish church, with an ever-growing number of floats and pilgrims taking part each year. On the first Sunday of September the pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Fuensanta is held. Since the 16th century, the Brotherhood of Nuestra Señora de la Fuensanta y Santa Lucía has organised this pilgrimage, held every year on the first Sunday of September. Proceedings begin with the reception of the affiliated brotherhoods from Cambil, Solera and Torres and the walk to the sanctuary. After the Eucharist, the carving of the Virgin is carried in procession, accompanied on her platform by the image of Santa Lucía. In a typical pilgrimage atmosphere, a day is spent in the countryside, during which it is customary to drink water from the sanctuary's well, to which numerous miracles have been attributed.
Bonfires are lit the night before, around which people dance, sing, eat and drink. While the fire burns, chorizo, morcilla and other pork products are prepared, such as pig's cheek, served alongside traditional drinks like cuerva and mistela.
Held since the middle of the last century. A teacher at the La Capellanía school donated an image of the Virgen de Fátima to the parish of Hornos and asked the parish priest to hold a Mass so that children from the village and neighbouring farmsteads could make their first communion. Today it is held in the beautiful El Control area.
Held in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and San Roque in mid-August. For a week, dances, bolos serranos championships, an open-air summer cinema and, most importantly, “Las Vaquillas” are organised. At the Puerta Nueva, young bulls are released and run through the town's streets. This bullfighting tradition has deeply popular roots.
This is a curious carnival tradition in which young men use “Bordos”, the fruit of the bulrush plant, once woven to make chair seats, rubbing their long strands until they release a white, sticky fluff that sticks to the hair or clothing of the girl they wish to show their love for — a source of pride for the mothers of these young women, who saw their daughters return covered in many “bordos”, an unmistakable sign that she had many suitors.
Where, at the sound of the evening bell, the bonfires are once again lit, with the purifying symbolism of commemorating the Purification of Mary and the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple.
Every 25 April, Hinojares celebrates its patron saint festival in honour of San Marcos. To mark the occasion, the saint is carried in procession and the traditional blessed "tortas de San Marcos" are handed out — round sweets with ribbed edges.
The Evangelist saint is carried in procession holding one such cake in his left arm, representing the many that, once the religious ceremony ends, are distributed among locals and visitors alike, as an old, time-honoured act of communal charity, paid for from municipal funds. Until about half a century ago, it was customary for the Patron Saint not to process alone through the streets of Hinojares, but to be accompanied by the image of San Blas.
Holy Week, during which five brotherhoods process through the streets of Guarromán, reaches its festive conclusion on Easter Sunday, when the people of Guarromán celebrate the «Pintahuevos» with a family gathering in the countryside — a tradition brought by German settlers, involving decorating boiled eggs with bright colours and patterns, which are then used in a pipirrana with roasted peppers, black olives and plenty of olive oil.
