Beautiful reservoirs hidden among high mountains await you, along with crystal-clear rivers that once carried timber downstream for ancient empires. You can walk across Spain’s largest high plateau, hug one of its oldest pine trees and marvel at a population scattered across countless hamlets surrounded by mountains, something truly unusual in southern Spain. The mountain people have learned to adapt to an environment that is as beautiful as it is harsh, and their hospitality is yet another reason to visit.

The climate and geography of this land have not stopped people from settling in more than 80 hamlets and villages, some of them home to just two or three people. Each has its own way of life and its own way of using the land: a true example of the art of using resources without exhausting them.

This is the land of Segureño lamb, perhaps the area’s most important resource. This sheep breed, unlike any other, has shaped the destiny of this part of the Sierra de Segura and produces one of the best-known and most sought-after delicacies in Spain. Don’t leave without trying it!

You will also be able to admire important examples of rock art in numerous caves and rock shelters, bearing witness to the wanderings of our species for more than five thousand years.

At Las Anchuricas reservoir you will discover one of the most spectacular landscapes in the entire park: a true green lake among the mountains, reflecting the colour of the surrounding forests, where griffon vultures are sure to fly overhead.

There is certainly no shortage of water. Here you will find the springs of La Toba, the sources of the Segura and Zumeta rivers, Las Juntas de Miller…

And if you are looking to lose yourself in nature, this is your chance. Thousands of hectares where it feels as if the world has stopped, and where birds, deer and Spanish ibex will be your only companions.
